Stella Dawes... ‘cos you’re worth it

Stella Dawes is a collective of five musicians, from a range of musical and national backgrounds, but united by a common purpose: to create music that is at the same time powerful and emotive.
Based in Birmingham, they self-released their debut album, Contrasts, in 2008. Critics described the album as "an astounding debut" flitting "between being aggressive and abusive to beautiful and serene in the flick of a pedal".
They have since reworked their line up and their sound. Strong melodies focus the disjointed rhythms and dischords of their debut into tighter songs. The vocals, while still intense as ever, have developed great range and clarity in their delivery. The lyrics themselves are outbursts of frustration towards a confusing and troubling modern world.
At heart Stella Dawes are a punk rock band, but a sophisticated one, that people might compare just as easily with metallic hardcore bands like Converge as with screamo bands like Envy or melodic hardcore like La Dispute.
In 2011 the boys are planning a short EP at the start of the year. Expect to see a second album by the end of the year, on top of a load of gigs around the country.
